Osaka’s Rockstar Reptile Café, where you can eat and pet creepy creatures

Located near Namba station in Osaka, this is one of Japan’s most unique cafes… because you get to sip tea amongst crawling reptiles, some of which look so DANGEROUS!!

He’s holding a tarantula the size of my PALM

And I’m hoping to become Spiderman!!!

The staff look so badass with dyed hair, thick eyeliner and body piercings, but are extremely friendly and calm with animals and guests.

Price: A drink costs about 800 yen, while entrance is 1000 yen.

You can also buy nibbles and snacks for 1000 yen or so, and even daring eats like fried INSECTS!!!

We ordered melon soda float and chocolate mint with cream, 800 yen each. But they do not taste amazing, we are mainly here for reptiles after all!

Tip: After your first visit you will receive a VIP card, omitting you from future cover charges (of 1000yen)!

Time spent:

You can spend as long as you like! We stayed for close to 3 hours!!!

Safety:

Will I get bitten/poisoned?

The animals that can be pet are either de-fanged or de-venomed and are completely safe. They are also not hostile, but some will squirm a lot to get out of your unfamiliar grip.

This huge snake was so heavy and long and it was impossible to control where he slithers!

Are the animals happy and healthy?

The animals have rest days too, so they will not be tired out and touched on these days.

What if I don’t know how to hold them?

Friendly staff will teach us how to handle animals, some cannot be stroked (like the tarantulas), some faces can’t be touched (like the larger snakes).

The layout:

Petting animals:

Each animal has their own name and breed and safety to touch sign written. (Animals that are still venomous, moulting etc are not safe to touch)

Iguanas are able to roam freely in the café. So be careful not to tread over one!

There are also 2 owls in the café. Their wings are not clipped so they can fly, but their feet are strapped to a chain to prevent chaos.

Reptiles for sale:

One end has baby snakes and iguanas for sale too!

Location:

Here is a map of the area, the nearest train station is Namba, and from there it is a quick walk to the building, the ground floor should have a sign to direct you to take the lift up and you’ll see it once the elevator door opens!

Opening hours: 11:00 to 22:00

Contact them!

Here is their website (they have a list of menu, animals and pets for sale!)

They even have sister cafes–snake café and small animal café nearby!
